Head of Laboratory

Professor Mladen Brnčić, PhD

Telephone: + 385 1 4605 223
Email: mladen.brncic@pbf.unizg.hr

Laboratory for Technical Thermodynamics became an independent organizational unit in 2002 under the leadership of Professor Damir Ježek, PhD. Before its independence, thermodynamics instruction was shaped for decades by external associates from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FSB) as well as prominent professors such as Ivo Kolin and Dubravka Krišković.

The history of the laboratory has been marked by the continuous development of teaching materials and the adaptation of courses to the needs of food technologists. Today, under the leadership of Professor Mladen Brnčić, PhD (since 2011), the laboratory combines fundamental knowledge of thermodynamics with the latest technological trends in the food industry.

Scientific research, in addition to classical thermal processes, is focused on the application of novel non-thermal technologies. Special emphasis is placed on the application of ultrasound technology in drying, extraction and homogenization processes, as well as on the innovative treatment of biowaste and by-products of the food industry.
