Laboratory for Bioinformatics is engaged in the application of computational methods and algorithms in the analysis of biological data, with an emphasis on the research of proteins and peptides, the analysis of genomic and proteomic data, and the development of computational tools and databases tailored to the needs of biological research.

The research work of the laboratory is focused on understanding the structure and function of biological macromolecules using methods of machine learning, statistics and computational biology, with a special focus on applied proteomics, molecular genomics and nutrigenomics.

The Laboratory participates in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels, covering areas from digital biotechnology and programming in bioinformatics to advanced topics such as bioinformatics of industrial microorganisms and molecular nutrition. In this way, students acquire both theoretical and practical computational knowledge essential for contemporary biological research.

The Cabinet for Bioinformatics was established in 2002 within the Department of Biochemical Engineering of the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb, and since then has continuously followed and implemented current trends in bioinformatics.
