COURSE CONTENT
The impact of lifestyle and nutrition on health. The peculiarities of metabolism in health and disease, and specific dietary requirements. Assessment of nutritional status and identification of nutritional needs. Diet as a support in medical treatment. Hereditary diseases as a cause of malnutrition. Malnutrition in the developed world - anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, hospital patients. Application of enteral and parenteral nutrition - risks and benefits. Diet and lifestyle as risk factors for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. The relationship between nutrition and cancer development. Contemporary knowledge in the prevention and diet therapy of metabolic and gastrointestinal tract disorders. Features, advantages and disadvantages of diets that are used in clinical practice. Regulation and uniformity in labelling diets and formulations used in the diet of patients, and their availability.
