Laboratory for Food Processes Engineering developed from the Department of General Chemical and Food Technology of the then Faculty of Technology, and originally bore the name Laboratory for General Food Technology. The first Head of the Laboratory was Professor Božidar Rogina, PhD, who taught from the academic year 1956/57 until 1964/65, when leadership was taken over by Professor Ivo Milostić, PhD.
In 1978, the Laboratory changed its name to its current one, and the Head became Professor Tomislav Lovrić, PhD, who introduced the course "Basic Processes in the Food Industry". From 1991, the Head of the Laboratory became Professor Vesna Hegedušić (Lelas), PhD. During this period, the Laboratory significantly developed the curriculum, introducing courses such as "Processes in the Food Industry with Fundamentals of Food Engineering" and "Food Preparation Processes".
With the introduction of the Bologna Process in the academic year 2005/06, the teaching staff of the Laboratory became the holders of numerous new courses at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies. Since October 2013, the position of Head of Laboratory has been held by Professor Zoran Herceg, PhD, who is also credited with the introduction of the courses Food Process Engineering 1 and 2.
