About the Department

The Department of General Programmes was established in 1996 as the successor to the Office for General Programme Foundations and Economics within the Department of Process Engineering. Over time, the Department has positioned itself as an interdisciplinary unit connecting social sciences, economics, foreign languages, and physical education, providing students with comprehensive support for their professional development.

Teaching Activities

Through its units, the Department ensures the acquisition of skills necessary for the contemporary business and scientific environment:

• Foreign languages for specific, professional purposes and academic communication
• Economics, management, and process governance
• Social sciences in the context of biotechnology and nutrition
• Students' physical and health education
• Sustainability and skills in green food technology, sustainability of advanced food processing techniques, and topics of digitalisation and green skills

Scientific and Professional Activities

The Department's activities are focused on the interdisciplinary aspects of the profession, with special emphasis on modernisation and sustainability:

• Research in the field of sustainable development and environmentally friendly technologies
• Economic aspects of the food industry and biotechnology
• Development of new methods in student education and professional training

Since 2019, the Laboratory for Sustainable Development has operated within the Department, further strengthening the Department's scientific contribution to addressing current environmental and social challenges.
