Section for Food Plant Design was established in 2002 within the Department of Food Technology Engineering. Before the establishment of the independent Cabinet, the activity of developing technological projects was carried out within the Laboratory for Oil and Fat Technology.

The key teaching activity takes place through the course Design in the Food Industry at the graduate study programme Food Engineering. Under the leadership of Professor Sandra Balbino, PhD, students learn how to integrate the design of production lines and plants while optimizing the costs of equipment, energy and labor, strictly adhering to hygienic and legal criteria.

In addition to teaching, the professional activity of the Cabinet includes the preparation of complete project documentation for the food industry. Our experience encompasses successfully realized projects for oil mills, slaughterhouses, bakeries, wineries, and meat, fruit and vegetable processing plants.
