About the Department
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry was established in 1979. Today, the Department provides students with the acquisition of fundamental knowledge in chemical and biochemical disciplines and conducts systematic basic research as a foundation for further scientific development.
Teaching Activities
- Basic chemical and biochemical disciplines: general, analytical, organic and physical chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology
- Applied chemistry courses: green chemistry, food toxicology, protein purification and characterization, biochemical analytics and instrumental analysis
- Participation in teaching at doctoral studies of the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry of the University of Zagreb
Scientific and Professional Activities
- Synthesis and isolation of biologically active compounds and their spectroscopic and electrochemical characterization
- Study of metallocene bioconjugates, development of chemometric methods, chemical sensors and instrumental methods for biological material
- Molecular modeling of diffusion processes through polymer membranes
- Research on fungal cell wall biogenesis, regulation of gene expression in yeast, and endocrine modulators in food
