About the Department

The Department of Food Technology Engineering is a fundamental unit of the Faculty focused on the development of new food production technologies. The Department's scientific activity is concentrated on process improvement with special emphasis on the development of functional foods, innovative processing and sustainable technological solutions in the food sector.

Teaching Activities

Department staff teach at all levels of study at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology and at related faculties of Croatian universities:

  • Undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies
  • Integration of modern processes and technologies into teaching activities
  • Collaboration with other constituent units of Croatian universities in interdisciplinary education

Scientific and Professional Activities

The Department's scientific research encompasses the most modern aspects of food technology:

  • Non-thermal processing techniques: cold plasma, pulsed electric field, ultrasonic procedures and high hydrostatic pressure
  • Advanced processing methods: extrusion, microwaves, tribomechanical micronization and membrane processes
  • Specific technologies: milk, meat, fish, cereals, confectionery products, oils, fruit, vegetables, wine and strong alcoholic beverages
  • Ecology and sustainability: treatment of technological waters and by-products of the food industry

The Department continuously cooperates with the economy in solving process problems, developing new products and creating technological solutions for modern production facilities.
